Tiling Works

TILER

·      Introduction
Tiler is one of the trades that always in demand, either for a new construction or renovating works. Tiling job can be as simple as laying the tile, or as difficult as leveling process.

·      Job Description

1.  Preparation
Preparation is one of the keys to a successful tile installation. This means examining the substrate, and leveling it if necessary. This can entail nailing up sheets of backer board around a shower, checking the flex of a floor or using a self-leveling compound to even out small valleys or humps. Tile jobs can fail if a substrate is not properly prepared.

2.    Setting Materials
In addition to the preparation and the actual installation of the tile, a tile installer will need to be able to work with many kinds of setting materials.

3.    Cutting Tile
Every tile installation will involve cuts. Cutting can be as tedious as scoring and snapping one tile at a time, or as quick as cutting the tiles on a tile saw. An installer should be familiar with various cutting techniques, as tools can vary by the size of the job, the size of the tile and the type of tile.

4.    Laying the Tile
There are many tile installers who only hang tile on walls. This is because laying tile on a floor means being on your knees for hours laying, cutting and grouting in the tiles. Tiling can be precision work, with intricate cuts made and tiles laid and lined up perfectly square with walls. While speed can come with practice, doing the job right means taking the time to dry-fit a job, make the proper cuts, prepare the substrate and finally lay the tile.

5.    Cleaning Up
After the installation of tile completed, the tiler needs to clean up all grout, including grout haze and leaving no marks or footprints behind.
